Winifred Hodge
For this latest body of work I have spent much time on the coast and exploring my fascination not only for the movement of water, the effect of incoming and outgoing tides on atmosphere and mood, but also for the journey of burns and rivers to reach the sea. I’ve had fun locating the sources of rivers in Galloway, along the Forth coastline and on the islands off the North West, following their paths through such a huge variety of habitats, all sorts of wildlife and in all weather conditions.
The challenge of capturing that enormous energy and atmosphere while at the water’s edge just looking, listening, taking it all in, always sketching, perhaps painting outside, is a constant source of joy.
