In this short course, we will explore in depth, the magnitude and magnificence of the work of 20th Century Painter, Wilhelmenia Barns-Graham. 

From her begininngs as a landscape painter, through to total abstraction, we will explore her fascination of colour, form and space and her rigorous approach to making work and taking risks.  Barns-Graham worked between St Ives and her home in Fife, but also took huge inspiration from her travels, most significantly her time spent exploring the glaciers of Switzerland. 

​Over the course of 5 weeks, we will explore her avenues to abstraction, beginning by finding abstract values in the landscape around the studio, eventually arriving at total abstraction exploiting the possibilities of colour, shape and space.  We will also visit the Barns-Graham Trust in Edinburgh to view her work in the flesh, and meet the Director of the trust who will talk about her work.
