An exciting four days working from the gardens and allotments around Cockenzie House. The course will begin with looking at ways to gather information outdoors in sketchbooks and on loose paper. Initially working in monochrome, we will then move on to looking at the rich, bright colours of gardens in summer.
Drawings made outdoors will be transformed into simple, painterly monotype prints back in the studio which will provide both an end in themselves and a number of lively, interesting surfaces to then take back outdoors and work onto using charcoal and coloured pastels. Inspiration will be taken from the work of Degas, Joan Eardley, Duncan Shanks and Kim Atkinson among others. Students will finish the course with richly layered pieces combining drawn and printed marks in full colour. |
