The Colour Garden
|
Using the garden landscapes that surround Cockenzie House as subject matter, this course will explore the potential of colour to communicate ideas and emotion in your work.
In our first week we will spend time out on location in the landscape gathering drawings. We will explore working in ‘non-literal’ ways with colour using coloured grounds and limited colour drawing materials to free up our palettes. The subsequent 3 weeks will each be devoted to working within a specific primary colour key - a week with blue then red then yellow. Each colour and week will start with a talk and will guide different exercises in drawing, print, mixed media and paint both in the studio and the garden. In the final week we will work on a large colour-led work in your own chosen colour key. Throughout the course there will be talks on colour and colour theory and we will be guided by a range of artists that use colour as a central tenet of their work. |
