Margaret Findlay
Looking at photographs from the Hubble telescope you can feel you are looking from everlasting to everlasting, something wondrous and eternal. In contrast I look at man-made constructions which are often functional, sometimes beautiful but always finite.
The abandonment of cottages and farm buildings has lead to a wealth of derelicts for me to explore. I can see the careful construction, I can imagine the sights and the sounds in their heyday and then I see the beauty in the quality of light that comes from gaping roofs, bouncing down from beam to beam, streaming down pipes, cables and broken-down walls. In this body of work I seek to capture the sense of the transience of these buildings.
I feel the echoes of what once was but would soon be gone forever.
