Fiona Morris
This body of work emerged from an increasing fascination with smaller - sometimes tiny - details of the land- and seascapes I had previously been painting; as I began to focus on the textures and forms of a broken shell or a fragment of bark, exploring what I was seeing and feeling through 3D ceramic pieces became the bulk of my practice.
I use traditional hand-building techniques - coiling, pinching and slabbing - with different clays - stoneware for more delicate works, coarse cranks for heavier, more textured ones - to produce a mix of observational, sculptural and more functional pieces which are intended to be interesting and satisfying to look at and to touch.
