This four-day painting course explores different approaches to making expressive portraits with an emphasis on techniques to help loosen up. As well as small quick portraits, there will be an opportunity to work on a larger painting over several days.
Working from the model we will begin by making small portrait studies on board using big brushes and consider their impact on mark-making and gestural paint handling. You will be shown how to build the structure of the head using directional brush strokes and ways to apply thicker paint. With plenty of demonstrations and one-to-one advice to keep you on the right track, we will cover colour mixing, paint application, proportions and the structure of the head as well as discussing famous artists who have worked in this genre. Whether you are starting out with portraits or looking to develop your skills this intensive course will take you in exciting new directions built on a solid foundation. |
