Ways of Painting a Dynamic Nude
|
This is a fun and informative workshop exploring the gestural possibilities of paint and a more contemporary approach to working from the model.
The workshop begins by experimenting with dynamic cropping and ways of abstracting the life figure, working on small boards to really focus our attention. On day two we will scale up, thinking about the effect of the scale of the mark and the scale of the surface and how it changes the overall reading of the painting. You will be encouraged to explore the tactile qualities of your materials, working boldly to keep a looseness and freshness of paint, using the medium to reproduce the qualities of flesh. Through experimentation, you will explore different ways to create tension in the painting through a variety of mark making in your preferred medium. We will look at artists such as Jenny Saville, Joan Semmel, Williem de Kooning and Philip Pearlstein amongst others. With lots of demonstrations and one-to-one tuition, this workshop is suitable for all levels of ability. |
