Drawing & Painting from The National Gallery Collection
|
This five week course is a unique opportunity to explore one of the greatest collections of paintings in the world. Most of the vast collection of works in London’s National Gallery are accessible online and in high definition and we will make use of this in the Paintbox studios as we work through a series of carefully constructed talks, themes and creative exercises that build towards making your own painted interpretation of a ‘masterwork’ of your choice.
We will discuss paintings in depth looking at elements such as composition, colour, space, drawing, materials and context. But most importantly we will be using the course as a chance to visually explore and interpret these works - moving around within their spaces and opening up all they have to offer us. From thumbnail studies to large expressive re-drawings and from quick painted sketches to full painted or mixed media personal interpretations - this will be far from a dry exercise in copying but rather a deep and playful exploration that reveals as much about you and your own interests as it does about the chosen paintings and artists you are working with. Suitable for all levels of experience this course will take place in the Cockenzie House studio where we will work from projected images and printed and online resources. Some of the works will be specified but you will ultimately be able to pick your own artists and artworks. |
