Kate Downie is an American born Scottish landscape artist.
Her work is exhibited internationally and held in both public and private collections.
In 2014 Kate Downie was Artist in Residence for the Forth Road Bridge during its 50th Anniversary.
Kate Downie RSA will be leading this drawing masterclass, looking at and responding to the wonderfully contrasting environment around Cockenzie House, a garden oasis within a place that has spawned fishwives and fishermen, coal miners and power stations, as well as the intense legacy of the great painter John Bellany.
Over three days, drawings will be made in all sizes from minute to huge. Starting with drawing exercises upon the anatomy of a living tree and we will complete the workshop with a performative communal drawing responding to the vastness of a living estuary where it meets the shoreline.
Downie will introduce a variety of approaches to mark making, materials and the unusual use of everyday technology in this lively interactive exploration of place.
